TANYA DUCKWORTH ARTIST SCIENTIST

TANYA DUCKWORTH ARTIST SCIENTIST
Tanya is a practicing visual artist and a published neuroscientist, who has exhibited locally and internationally. Tanya has been an invited speaker on the intersections of art and neuroscience in Sydney, Adelaide and at the National Opera Centre in New York City. She is a current PhD candidate in Neuroscience at the University of Adelaide investigating the effects of creativity on neuroplasticity and cognition in adults with post-traumatic stress disorder, and a Neurophysiology & Cognition Laboratory Manager for the Humans in Space Project at the Andy Thomas Centre for Space Resources. Her artwork utilises interdisciplinary multi-arts mediums including installation, photography, chemistry, light, video and documentation of live experiments. This process allows for a personal introspection and creative exploration of neuroscientific concepts and philosophy as an extension of her academic research, outside the constraints of scientific rigour and peer review.
At present her sculptural installation work focuses on the analysis and documentation of neuroscientific processes through artistic mediums, particularly neurophysiological processes including neuroplasticity, neurogenesis, and organic creative processes.
Her abstract expressionistic work frequently draws from personal experiences as a form of healing.
Tanya is also a portrait artist and illustrator.
